IV Sedation Dentistry in Manchester

What is IV Sedation?

IV (Intravenous) Sedation is a safe and effective form of conscious sedation used to help nervous patients feel calm and relaxed during dental treatment. The sedative is administered through a small cannula placed in the arm or hand, allowing the medication to work quickly and effectively.

Many patients describe feeling deeply relaxed and often remember very little about their treatment afterwards, making IV sedation an ideal solution for those with dental anxiety or dental phobia.

How Does IV Sedation Work?

IV sedation works by delivering medication directly into the bloodstream, producing a state of deep relaxation while allowing you to remain conscious and responsive. Throughout your treatment, your breathing, heart rate, and oxygen levels are continuously monitored by our trained team to ensure your safety and comfort.

What Treatments Can Be Carried Out Under IV Sedation?

IV sedation can be used for a wide range of dental procedures, including:

Will I Be Asleep During IV Sedation?

No. IV sedation is known as conscious sedation, meaning you remain awake and able to respond to instructions. However, you will feel extremely relaxed and may remember very little about the procedure afterwards.

Is IV Sedation Safe?

Yes. IV sedation has an excellent safety record when administered by appropriately trained dental professionals. Your medical history will be carefully assessed beforehand, and you will be continuously monitored throughout your appointment.

Who Is IV Sedation Suitable For?

IV sedation may be suitable if you:

A consultation will determine whether IV sedation is appropriate for your individual needs.

Who Is IV Sedation Not Suitable For?

IV sedation may not be suitable for certain patients with specific medical conditions or those who are pregnant. During your consultation, we will review your medical history and discuss the safest treatment options available.

What Happens During the IV Sedation Process?

1. Consultation

We will discuss your dental concerns, medical history, and any anxiety surrounding treatment. This allows us to determine whether IV sedation is the right option for you.

2. Treatment Planning and Sedation Assessment

A personalised treatment plan will be created for you, and you will receive full instructions on how to prepare for your appointment. To ensure sedation can be performed safely and effectively, we will also answer any questions you may have regarding the procedure prior to your treatment.

3. Sedation Appointment and treatment

The sedative is administered through a small cannula. Once you are comfortable and relaxed, treatment can begin. Your vital signs are continuously monitored throughout the procedure.

4. Recovery

After treatment, you will rest until you are ready to go home. A responsible adult must accompany you and remain with you for the rest of the day.

5. Aftercare

You will be provided with detailed post-treatment instructions. Most patients feel back to normal by the following day.

I have been going to this dentist for years what a great place. If I have an emergency I can get booked in pretty fast. I asked about teeth whitening and was referred to George. I bought the whitening package and then decided I wanted composite bonding. I have just had this done on my top teeth today. I can’t tell you how pleased I am with the results. I would recommend George for his amazing work. Thanks

Had a complicated wisdom tooth extraction my regular dentist didn’t want to proceed with. So got referred to Dr Aslam, I was so impressed with how efficient and quickly he got the tooth out. Painless, fast and zero complications. What more can you ask for. 10/10 well done Arfeen and his team. Thanks Richard.

This is a truly excellent dental practice, the best I've ever been to. I needed some cosmetic dental surgery for the first time in my life - and I'm in my 60's - and my dentist Dr Cheeseman, has been tamazing. I was extremely worried about making the wrong decision because I've never had any major work done before and the damaged tooth was right at the front. He was incredibly kind, patient and happy to talk through the options over and over again over several appointments. The … More solution we settled on was pain free from the root canal through to the fitting of the crown and the veneer on the adjacent tooth. Most importantly the end result is fantastic, better than my original teeth and looks so natural. I've had loads of compliments and have regained my former smile - and my confidence. The whole procedure was very reasonsbly priced too, especially compared to an implant. Highly recommended. And the receptionists and dental nurses are all lovely too!
